As well as learning client’s name and drink of choice.

  • Expected behavior: Greet and acknowledge the customers in a fashion that you would greet an old friend. Acknowledge them when they arrive; it’s important that you make the customer feel welcome and comfortable. Prepare them to order by asking what they would like to drink or if you know what they drink then simply ask “The Usual? “. Maintain a clean, appealing, cheerful and organized environment at all times.

  • All food / beverage should be made and served in the most expeditious fashion, with the focus on cleanliness, precision and presentation. The transaction should be completed by acknowledging the beverage / food of choice; eye contact while declaring the cost of the purchase; counting back the change to the customer, and thanking them for the order. NEVER KEEP CHANGE UNLESS CLEARLY STATED BY THE CUSTOMER! The client will decide on how much he / she is willing to tip.

  • Check back on customer in a timely manner. Many customers require more the one drink or may require additional items to complete their meal. The bartender/server should know how to use the rounds approach, how the keep a mental track of the succession of the patrons and repeat the sequence of their follow-up.

  • Always check on customers and who may be in alternative areas within the bar such as the Pool Room, VIP Lounges, and Library, Dining Room or playing the VLT’s.

  • Bid farewell to the guest and welcome them back; the way you acknowledge the arrival or departure should be the same as you would an old friend. Thank them for dropping in and look forward to seeing them again.

  • A GREAT bartender /server have a GREAT personality. Leave all YOUR problems at home! You must be a great listener; however you are not there to give advice, just listen and agree with the customer’s decisions. Listening will help you align the service that the clients expect. Have a great sense of humor. Most clients come to have a drink to get away from the rough day at work, get away from the house or maybe just thirsty. In most cases when they run into a bartender/server that is willing to listen or even show a friendly smile, YOU make your clients day and a BIG TIP!

  • During busy periods it is important to work the bar. Scan as you go and ensure you make it to the person who is next in line. Eye contact is “KEY” when working the bar. Keep the work area clean and uncluttered. Making sure all empties are off the counter and the bar is regularly wiped down.

  • Legal obligations: DO NOT SERVE THOSE WHO ARE ALREADY UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL! If someone has too much to drink, you are legally obliged to refuse service to them. Ensure that those you are serving are of legal drinking age; always ask for the appropriate ID.
As for cleaning duties, those will be directed by management in addition to those duties laid out in your job description.
